Fairy Tale Newscast
How to Play
The players perform a live news broadcast covering a familiar fairy tale as though it is breaking news.
Opening: Two News Anchors begin a normal newscast and introduce the fairy-tale story as breaking news.
Breaking News: The Anchors discuss what has happened so far and then send the broadcast to a Reporter who is live at the scene.
On-the-Scene Report: The Reporter describes what is happening at the location and interviews another player who is portraying a character from the fairy tale.
Interview: The fairy-tale character answers the Reporter’s questions from their own point of view, adding new details and jokes while staying within the world of the story.
Return to Studio: The Reporter throws the broadcast back to the Anchors.
Closing: The Anchors react to the report, wrap up the story, and sign off the newscast.
The comedy comes from treating a familiar fairy tale like a serious, developing television news story.
Host Tips
Get the Story: The audience suggests a well-known fairy tale or children’s story. Host might ask for a quick summary of the fairy tale so everyone on team and audience knows what it’s about.
Interviews: Anchor typically goes back to the field 2-3 times for interviews with different characters. Either anchor or interviewer can name the character being interviewed.
