Newscast/Newscaster
How to Play
Two seats are set up in center stage.
Four players perform an improvised television newscast. The Co-Anchor, Sports Reporter, and Weather Reporter are each given a strange character, behavior, or situation to act out during their segment.
Opening: The Anchor welcomes the audience and introduces the newscast.
Co-Anchor: The Anchor turns to the Co-Anchor to discuss the day's news. The Co-Anchor responds while gradually revealing or fully embracing their assigned weird character or behavior.
Sports: The Anchor sends the broadcast over to the Sports Reporter for a sports update. The Sports Reporter delivers their report while acting out their assigned character or situation.
Weather: The Anchor then sends the broadcast to the Weather Reporter, who gives the forecast while acting out their assigned character or situation.
Closing: The broadcast returns to the Anchor, who wraps up the stories and signs off, ending the newscast.
The Anchor generally plays things straight while the other performers make their segments increasingly ridiculous.
Player Tips
Anchor intro typically includes one or both of a reference to the previous show (for example, “we hoped you’re enjoying your all-day ‘Hamsters Gone Wild’ marathon”) or a reference to a later headline story (“later tonight, an exclusive interview with the Pope about his obsessions with turnips”)
